US census

             1. The majority of the people living in that state of Connecticut are white, as the percentage of white people stands at 81.6%, which is higher than the national percentage (75.1%). Also, the percentage of white people who are not of Hispanic or Latino descent is higher in Connecticut (77.5%), than that at the national level (69.1%) Furthermore, the percentages of racial and ethnic minorities living in Connecticut are lower in all of the census' given categories: African American, American Indian, Haiwaiian, Alaskan, Asian and Latino/Hispanic. However, I found it very interesting that although the percentages of minorities living in Connecticut are below that of the national average, the percentage of people who spoke a language other than English at home is actually higher in Connecticut (18.3%) than the national percentage (17.9%)
             2. Of Connecticut's eight districts, Hartford County, which I consider to be my home county, appears to be more racially diverse than many of the other counties. In Hartford County, the percentage of white people living there (76.9%-81.6%) is less than the overall state percentage. Furthermore, there are more blacks/African Americans (9.1%-11.7%) living in this county, more people who consider themselves to be of Hispanic/Latino origin (9.4%-11.5%) and also more people who report being of some other race (4.3%-6.4%), than any of the other state counties. I believe that Hartford County may appear to be more diverse than the other seven counties of Connecticut because it holds the state capital, Hartford, which is also the major city of Connecticut. I feel as though larger cities tend to have a great deal more racial, ethnic and cultural diversity than their more rural and suburban counterparts, which from personal experience tend less likely to embrace racial and ethnic differences.
