EGYPT TOURIST DESTINATION
Egypt is located in Northern Africa, bordering the Mediterranean Sea, between Libya and the Gaza Strip. With total land area about 995,450 square kilometres, Egypt is the most populous country in the Arab world and the second-most populous on the African Continent. It is a diverse country that straddles two worlds, Africa and the Middle East. Its people have backgrounds that include Turkish, Arab, African, Nubian, Pharonic (ancient Egyptians), European, Berber, Eastern European, etc. Egypt is a popular tourist destination for its many exciting and exotic sights and activities [2004 #2].The Pyramids of Giza are probably the best-known attraction, along with the ancient mysteries of Luxor and Aswan in Upper Egypt, with many beautiful Mosques and other examples of Islamic art and architecture. Egypt is becoming known for its beautiful and inexpensive beaches on the Red Sea where people can get their certification in Scuba diving while observing the incredible beauty of Egypt's Red Sea coral reefs. There are spectacular oases in the Egyptian Western Desert where bathing in hot or cold water springs is possible. Egypt also has a history in the Jewish and Christian religions. Culturally, the Egyptian people are warm, open and
Cultural LinksHistory shows that an important motivating influence on choice of destination by an origin region relates to the intrigue of exploring something exotic and unfamiliar. National governments sometimes revaluate their currency, which will then attract more interest in local destination sites. Spontaneous, intrepid, venturesome, innovative, culturally curious tours/destinations would appeal to younger single people, while meticulous, cautious, prepared, considered and conservative tours/destinations would appeal to married couples with children [Jackson, 2001 #28]. The pyramids are not built in a straight line and they lie on a hill above the Sphinx. Delayed marriage, divorce, retirement, widowhood, higher incomes and grown children have freed women to travel, often on their own. Egypt also offers many adventure tours including nature and desert treks, scuba diving and fishing expeditions [Winston, 2004 #6]. The Great Pyramid of Khufu is the largest pyramid and it rises about 450 feet and covers 13 acres. It is advisable to make a tour of the facilities before checking in [2003 #7]. Tourist Attraction Attributes:* Ownership* Orientation* Spatial configuration* Authenticity* Scarcity (international, national, regional)* Status* Carrying capacity* Accessibility (spatial, temporal, financial (price))* Market* Image (tourist or resident)The model from pages 148-151 of Weaver and Lawton (2002) portrays a spectrum of attributes which tourism (specifically destination) managers use to assess the status of the attractions of a particular area. From this figure, we assume that approximately 75% of these females would fall into the Young Optimist VALS segment. The Pyramid of Khufu has a base that covers roughly a thirteen acre area (roughly 392,040 square feet) [Romer, 2000 #34]. Population Density 76,117,421 [2004 #23]. These features already exist and a market has developed around their significance. Income, Marital Status and Family Lifestyle More and more, whole families are vacationing in Egypt, and that means bringing along children of all ages [1996 #26]. Tourists visiting Egypt for leisure and entertainment outnumber those visiting for cultural and historical sightseeing.
