The love for fame began with the Anglo-Saxons and is shown in Beowulf's desire for glory. Another way Beowulf reinforces the Anglo-Saxon values of society is the boasting of his accomplishments. Bravery was a trait wanted by the people and desired by the warriors. Beowulf's sword, hrunting, is one of the oldest treasures, given to him by Unferth. Beowulf and his followers risked their lives for the sake of the king and there people but were glorified and greatly rewarded with jewels, land, or money. Beowulf shows his bravery when he fight Grendel knowing the monster posses the strength of 30 men. Beowulf risked his life countless times for the good of others. Bravery is an essential trait of the Anglo-Saxon culture. Bravery allows the warriors to be fearless. Beowulf reinforces the Anglo Saxon idea of heroism because of his strength, courage, loyalty, boasting and striving for fame. The most heroic trait among Beowulf is that he is not afraid to die.
