             In his book, The Natural, author Joe Klein focuses on the presidency of Bill Clinton. Throughout the book, Klein illustrates the highs and the lows of the Clinton administration. A recurring theme in the book is that Klein feels that Bill Clinton's term in office was misunderstood. Bill Clinton received praise for many policies enacted while in office. However, because of some extreme outside issues and Bill Clinton's own shortcomings, some policies enacted during his administration received little or no recognition. This is why the Clinton administration at times is overlooked and misunderstood.
             The first page of The Natural is a personal story from Joe Klein. It describes a scene where Klein is at a town meeting to watch Bill Clinton speak concerning the New York primary. Klein brings his daughter along to the meeting. The scene is chaotic. Klein even mentions how he made some remarks in New York Magazine about the inconsistencies in the Clinton campaign. When Bill Clinton does arrive he singles out Klein, comes over, and tells his daughter that the reason why his father has been away so long is because he has been with him. Klein uses this example as a way to describe Clinton's charm. Bill Clinton was always extremely personable. Even after Klein wrote a column about the inconsistencies in Clinton's campaign, Clinton still came over and took time to talk with his young daughter. This ability to always appear affable proved to be one of Bill Clinton's most valuable assets.
             In conjunction with Bill Clinton's superior people skills, Klein points out his intelligence in domestic policy. Clinton was an expert in domestic social policy, public housing, and public education.
