ADHD
Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder is a common behavioral disorder that affects human behavior. Children with ADHD often experience negative effects on their social and emotional development as well as on their performance in school and work settings. This is true regardless of the types of symptoms and behaviors displayed. Physicians recognize 3 subtypes of ADHD: 3. Combined type- a child who displays a combination of symptoms from both categories. · Fails to give close attention to details or makes careless mistakes · Has difficulty sustaining attention in tasks or play activities · Does not seem to listen when spoken to directly · Does not follow through on directions and fails to finish schoolwork, chores, or duties in the workplace · Has difficulty organizing tasks or activities · Avoids or dislikes tasks that require sustained mental effort · Loses things necessary for tasks or activities · Is often forgetful in daily activities · Fidgets with hands or feet or squirms in seat · Leaves seat in classroom or in other situations in which remaining seated is e

IMPULSIVE BEHAVIOUR· Teach problem solving. · Model 'think-aloud' techniques, which help the student to verbalize. xpected · Runs or climbs excessively when it is inappropriate · Has difficulty playing or engaging in leisure activities quietly · Is always on the go or acts as if "driven by motor" · Often talks excessively Symptoms of Impulsivity· Blurts out answers before questions have been completed · Has difficulty waiting turn · Interrupts or intrudes on others ADHD affects approximately 3 to 5 percent of all school-aged children in the United States (nearly 2 million children). · Display, discuss and reinforce class rules. · Use positive reinforcement and incentives frequently. · Provide breaks, opportunities to move, hands-on activities. · Teach interpersonal problem-solving strategies. · Clear hands and desks of distractions. · Recognize the effort involved in a task even if an incorrect response is provided.
