catcher in the rye + shakesper

The book Catcher in the Rye is novel by J.D. Salinger about a troubled teenage boy named Holden Caulfield. Holden gets kicked out of the boarding school he attends and travels to New York City, where he stays alone for several days. The one thing that Holden hates more than anything are the people he calls "phonies". The people he labeled as phony are usually people who are inconsiderate or people he thinks are too typical and just follow the norm. Though Holden has a difficult time getting along with adults, he adores children. Holden feels that it is up to him to save the children, his sister Phoebe in particular, from these "phonies". He wishes he could let them know to stay a child for as long as possible, because Holden himself has nostalgic feelings for his childhood.
"Sonnet 18" by William Shakespeare is one of Shakespeare most famous and well known poems. In the poem, Shakespeare draws a comparison from the subject of the poem to summer. He describes the subject as "beautiful" and "temperate". He then says that just like summer turns to fall, the person in the poem will also fade, and loose their beauty. "And every fair from fair sometime declines/ By chance or nature's changing course untrimm'd" can be translated into "And everything that is beautiful will lose its beauty, By chance or by nature's planned out course." Shakespeare then says that by writing this poem, he can preserve the beauty and youth of the person.
