The Crucible

He was a playwright, he wrote over 15 plays, a novel, won a Pulitzer here and there, during his childhood, he lived under his older brother's shadow, and also had 3 marriages. Sounds like a character from an Oscar winning movie, doesn't it? Arthur Miller had his ups and downs, but always found a way to overcome his challenges. Miller, who is considered by many to be the pre-eminent playwright of the second half of the 20th century, wrote many great plays, as well as lived a great life.Arthur Miller had a regular family, had an older brother that seemed better than he was, and lived a very nice childhood playing sports. Well to tell the truth, he seemed to fit the criteria for an average boy. "Born into a happy and secure Jewish family on 112th Street, October 7, 1915, most of young Arthur's struggles stemmed from his older brother Kermit" (Glassman, 7). During the 16 years period, he wrote Focus, All My Sons, Death of a Salesman, his version of Enemy of the People, The Crucible, and one-act versions of A View From the Bridge, and A Memory of Two Mondays. The day when the movie opened in theaters was when she filed a Mexican divorce. His life is so interesting, and then u throw in his work. He won the Hopwood Award twice in his four-year college career. After graduating from high school, he tried to apply to the University of Michigan, but when he applied to the university, he was turned down until his third time with a convincing letter he sent to the admissions officer. The very next year he married Inge Morath, and in August of the same year Monroe was found dead from an overdose of sleeping pills. It seemed as if she was only using him for his writing ability. Yeah, he had his downs but it he also had lots of ups. Though he had gotten some encouraging interest from New York producers and actors, he began to feel as if he were ' battling time' " (Glassman, 25). Miller's interest in writing plays didn't come to until he got into college. The play itself opened on 1945 in Philadelphia and then New York. And he's still living too, which would mean he'll be 87 in October. "The year 1940 was something of a turning point for Arthur Miller.
