             Television is a powerful influence in children's behavior development. Television violence can cause children to become aggressive. The impact of television violence is immediately evident in a child's behavior or it can show years later. The programs where violence is very realistic and frequently repeated results in children imitating what they see. Many kids watch television when they are alone, so they do not have anyone to break their focus from the television. Parents are the ones responsible for their children and what they watch on television, who their children play with, and who are their children's friends. Television can have many negative effects on children, but there positive effects, too.
             In today's society, children watch too much television. The children watch about four to five hours of television a day and close to ten hours during the weekends (Brody 2). Many television commercials contain 1,000's of snack and fast food products that can effect what children eat (2). Commercials have many products advertised which effects what the children want. The products can be toys, games, videos, and food. People have done many studies and they found that children change what they eat after viewing snack and fast food commercials (2). The commercials with snack and fast food products help lead children to become obese. Obesity is a problem among our society and the commercials help promote it.
             Furthermore, television has more negative effects on children. The longer children sit in front of a television, the more the children's attention span, reading skills, and socialization become affected in a negative way (2). Children lose interest in books, schoolwork, and socialization with their parents and friends (Joseph 1). Children do not talk to their parents because they are always watching the television.
