Australian troops in Iraq
Australian troops should remain in Iraq until they finish the job they started. The Australian troops have committed themselves into going into Iraq and removing Saddam Hussein for the good of the Iraqi people. They are committed to the removal and Hussein and creating a democracy within Iraq. So far the troops have been successful in the removal of Hussein but far from successful in establishing a democracy. A democracy cannot be established when Muslim extremists are blowing their fellow Iraqi's and targeting coalition troops. The Iraqi people themselves need the troops for their own safety against terrorists and Hussein followers. Also, if troops where pulled out now then it would be seen as a great victory for supporters of Saddam Hussein and terrorists all over the world. It would be a great step forward for the Middle East if Iraq became a democracy. At the moment the only true democracy in the Middle East is Israel. Therefore the emergence of a close to democratic Iraq would be a huge step forward for the whole region. Opposition foreign affairs spokesman Kevin Rudd said, "Australia has legal and moral responsibilities in Iraq. Australia has an obligation to keep troops in Iraq until the country re-establishes itself. Without the troops presence at the present time, Iraq would be in turmoil. Only 45% backed Opposition Leader Mark Latham's promise to bring troops home from Iraq by Christmas. Senator and Australian Defence Minister Robert hill said the Australian forces would remain in Iraq as long as needed, and said Australia was considering sending more equipment. Iraq's future depends on the troops presence in Iraq. " Australia helped America to go into Iraq and remove their leader Saddam Hussein and his government from power. Australia as a whole is in favour of leaving the troops in Iraq until later stage. Fights broke out between Iraq's over possession's that did not even belong to them. The removal of the troops in Iraq would be the removal of law and order as well. Troops should stay in Iraq until there is an established government and law enforcement system. We saw what happened after the removal of Saddam Hussein's government. This shows that more Australians think that the troops should stay longer in Iraq as opposed to bringing them home soon. If the troops left now, in Iraq's current state, then the country would be worse off than when they entered.
