A golden oporatunity

             The original Olympians were held as gods by their countrymen for there athletic achievements, because athletes were strong and powerful and that was the sign of a good leader. People have held athletes in the highest of esteem for an extremely long time.
             Some people like baseball, others football or soccer, but my sport of choice is competitive shooting. Shooting for me is just as much a form of entertainment as it is a skill. One would say that all you have to do is point the gun and pull the trigger. If it was that easy, why aren't more people doing it? Because it more difficult than that. You have to have the endurance to stand in one spot for long periods of time. You have to have the strength to hold the gun up, but you must have the finesse to squeeze the trigger with just the right pressure -not too much and not too little. Unlike most other sports, shooting isn't a team sport. By that, I mean you rely on your own skill not the skill of your teammates.
             Through the past several years I have had the opportunity to shoot in various matches, including Regionals, Nationals, and the JR Olympic trials. Of all these, the most memorable would clearly be the National Championships this past year.
             It all started on a dark and damp Saturday, this past July. I awoke after a restless night around 3oclock in the morning. I didn't have to leave until 6 o'clock, but nervousness and anticipation of the upcoming activities kept me awake. So I packed and repacked my bags, and fed the animals, until it was time to go. I had to meet the team in Newberry, so I had a little drive before me, but before I knew it, I was there.
             So there I was, driving down the road right through Newberry when right in front of me a semi-truck pulled out. My mind starts to race as I slam on the brakes. "What's he doing?? Doesn't he hear my horn?" I changed lanes hoping he would see me and stop, but he continues to pull ou...
