a farewell to arms

I chose to compare and contrast the novels A Farewell to Arms, and by Ernest Hemingway and Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451. from the get go both books describe the settings and are totally on opposit ends of the spectrum. The novel, Fahrenheit 451, takes place in an unnamed futuristic city sometime in the 24th century. the technology has transformed society into a land of virtual reality. where as, the novel, A Farewell to Arms, is primarily set in Gorizia, a small town near the Italian-Austrian border, with World War I as its setting in 1914. The mood of a book sets everything for the book, "It was a sepcial pleasure to see things eaten, to see things blackened...(Bradbury p3)" The tone of Fahrenheit 451 is futuristic and gloomy. The world, is portrayed in the novel as a dictatorial police s


All these situations have come to life in some peoples lives, loved ones come and go, but the true ones stay with you forever. the mood being the same, dark and gloomy. tate and filled with strange technological modernizations. The charactors having the same traits, finding something in someone else, and having them up and die. Life and death are two of most used endings and beginnings used in books. Guy Montag began to qustion his life when he met a young woman. (Bradbury p60)" Clarisse McClellan was killed by a hit and run driver. Guy montag's job was to burn and destroy, while Lieutenant Frederic Henry's deuties were to perserve life to the best of his ability. the main charactors leave a life long lasting impression on you and some peoples out take on life is just in the glums. Clarisse McClellan a young seventeen-year old that lives next door to the Montags'. with its over powering sense of little controll of the factors that are to arive. Guy Montag was a fire man in the 24th century. Lieutenant Frederic Henry finds fulfillment in love, after his injury and his absense of his army post.
