Analysis of Anne Bradstreet
Reading an author's collection of poems allows us to sense and feel the struggles and tribulations in their life. This becomes very apparent in Anne Bradstreet's poems. Anne Bradstreet's unique writing style contrasts between her life as viewed by others, and the deep emotions she experiences personally. After further research, this relates to her struggle to accept her new life style. Mistress Bradstreet (viewed by society) and Anne (her true self) separate these styles.
She expresses all that happened in Queen Elizabeth's rule and builds her up as a great matriarch of England, once stating "more infamy than fame she did procure". Although this is not a poem, I believe it to be noteworthy. She expresses her great love for her children by explaining the mistakes of her past, while also expressing how she longs for them not to bare the hardships of repeating these errors. In her poem, "As Weary Pilgrim" she profoundly expresses her great sorrow for her lost husband. This poem seemingly portrays a collective view of all whom it pertains too, and in my view, is quite void of any in depth feelings or views. I feel that the writing style Mistress Bradstreet is most apparent in the poem section of her writing "In Honor of That High and Mighty Princess Queen Elizabeth of Happy Memory". In contrast, she nails down the basics of what, in those times, is a socially accepted life (i. To be specific, she states "Oh, how I long to be at rest; And soar on high among the blest. In her letter to her children, she, in my opinion, unites the two styles of writing. She is expressing her most profound feelings wither socially acceptable or not. She expresses her sorrow and then conveys her grief by wishing to be with him at rest. This poem could most likely express the styles of one Mistress Bradstreet, the socialist. She explains her undying love and respect for everything he has done.
