Terrorism
Millions of people travel through an airline on a daily basis. The reason vary: Some for luxury (vacations), others chose to fly because it is a daily routine, while others fly for the sole purpose of business. For example, each year thousands of pilots, flight crew, and businessman make a living by flying. The "Average Joe" on the other hand is forced to fly, but not because of economical gain but rather because it is the fastest means by which to get to a certain destination, if not the only way to get there.Whatever the case maybe, flying has always been considered a risk and a major fear in the minds of many citizens around the globe. But more so than ever Americans will think that flying is dangerous because that horrible scene of the jets slamming into the World Trade Center is now permanently sketched in our minds. Yet if we are going to be frightened of such random acts of terror - that have minute statistical probabilities of occurring - then are we also going to fear entering tall buildings (probably), going to a shopping mall, a football stadium, a bus, Disney World? Are we going to fear sending our kids to school? The truth is that yes we probably are scared of all those things. At one point I was also subject to suc
" STATS also finds that if you fly just 2,000 miles a year, your odds of dying in a plane crash are roughly equivalent to your odds of being hit on the head by a plane falling on you. Pilots are being retrained on how to respond in case of a terrorist attack, i. In conclusion the state of minds of the American people as well as of the other citizens of nations around the world who now have a heightened fear of flying because of the September 11th attacks need to remember a few quick points. In 1999 and 2000 there were less than five in each year. Of course those odds changed with the country on the brink of war, now in a full-blown war and the prospect of terrorist's attacks to come. Chances are you are more likely to incur a terrorist attack while in a crowded area, possibly at work, in a train, bus, or subway than while flying. Whenever we radically alter our lifestyle out of irrational fear (for example, by driving not flying), then we often engage in more dangerous behavior, not less. " Also with all the heightened security used at airports nowadays terrorist have been trying to come up with another alternative to create terror and chaos. For example we are more likely to be in a homicide, a fatal car accident, or be involved in a fatal machinery accident then we will ever be of being in an airplane crash. There were zero crashes and zero fatalities. h fears until I decided to face the truth. This may not seem very reassuring given that we have just suffered the worst catastrophic event on American soil in at least 100 years. The rate of death from catastrophic events (accidents killing at least five people), had fallen about "threefold" over the past 50 years. Flying is a lot safer than most Americans think.
