             The Infortunate is an autobiography by William Moraley, an indentured servant who ventured from England to the America colonies in 1729. The book first includes an introduction and some notes from Susan E. Kelpp and Billy G. Smith. During editor's introduction, William Moraley's stories were confirmed with actual history. Klepp and Smith also gave a brief summary of Moraley's life, and compared his lower class experiences in England and the colonies, to that fabulous success of Benjamin Franklin. Moraley's work was also compared with contemporary literature, providing the social, political and religious conditions at eighteenth century. It also identified and opened discussion for many issues raised by Moraley's account.
             The Infortunate includes twelve chapters telling the most of Moraley's lower class life. William was born in 1699, into a modest artisan family. Moraley's early years were wasted. He did not take advantage of the academic and vocational opportunities provided by his father, who worked as a clockmaker. Before William completed the apprenticeship with his father, the family lost a substantial investment in South Sea stocks. When senior Moraley died in 1725, William was only left with little money and limited artisanal skills. He could not find work in London, and decided to go to the American colonies as an indentured servant.
             Moraley first arrived in Philadelphia, where he agreed to work for Issac Pearson, who was also a clockmaker in nearby Burlington, New Jersey, for a term of five years. However, before his term was up, Moraley wanted to go to Philadelphia, the heaven for poor, in his opinion. Although William tried to escape after three years, it was not quite successful.
