Is this the earliest sign of a world based on censorship? In the view of one man a book was needed to warn his society of what may come if they stray down dangerous roads. Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 is a novel about a mundane society that has forgotten all social actions with each other. In Bradbury's eyes this is where the today's world is headed. His perspectives of Fahrenheit society are stretched in contrast with today's events, especially in the areas of censorship. This is were Bradbury saw our society going. Technology is always thought of as a good think, but it is not necessarily as shown in the book. Also, Bradbury warns us of the importance of the knowledge of history, as illustrated by Beatty telling Montag the first fireman was Ben Franklin. Just imagine if nobody knew history-what would happen? "Do you know why books such as this are so important? Because they have quality. When people begin to rely on technology, as in the novel, problems occur. Are society is starting to resemble 451 in that our society is moving to fast. This establishes the fact that 451 was written as a warning. " This quote explains how if a body of people objects to something somebody has written, that book must be altered. Secondly, Bradbury fancies that having fast cars, loud music, and advertisements makes a lifestyle with too much stimulation in which no one has the time to focus. After all books are knowledge, and knowledge is power as Beatty proved through out the book. Long ago, people in their society ceased to question the format of the society, and therefore power was concentrated into the hands of a select few- those with knowledge, again portraying that knowledge is in fact power. Although Ray Bradbury's predictions about society today are outrageous, one must remind himself that it does not take much to turn the very social society today into a materialistic robot-like society similar to that in Fahrenheit 451. When people stop thinking and begin to accept whatever the few powerful, knowledgeable people decide, the people are in trouble, because through time, they will gradually lose all influence on the society.
