The choosing of a nation's leader is always a grave undertaking. However, there are several countries whose decision tends to have a broad impact on the rest of the world. One in particular is the United States. With their next presidential election coming up many Americans have several issues to worry about that concerns their nations future. These issues bring Americans in doubt of whom being the better candidate for the United States, both on an international front and a domestic one. George W. Bush is the incumbent and current president of the United States. He is attempting to continue his programs through the extension of his stay in the presidential office for one more four-year term. A die-hard Republican, coming from a long line of die-hard Republicans, many already know where Bush stands on the issues. However, several issues surround his presidency which may tend to cast more of a pall on his status for the second term. The extended tour of the US troops in Iraq and the continued expenditure on the War on Terrorism has taken its toll on his reputation. Nightly newscasts carry the news of soldiers being picked off one by one by dissidents in Iraq and the Middle East. Heightened

On the domestic front, Kerry seems strongest in the areas of education, national resources, and rural assistance programs. Addressing this, then, President Bush managed to pass several referendums and bills which made it possible for those who have lost jobs to still hang on to their health insurance, while those who were retired were offered extended coverage and lower deductibles on their Medicare/Medicaid. However, Kerry, when it comes to important issues, has not even bothered to make it to the final vote. In the final analysis one wonders what would have been the course of action taken in the wake of the September bombings had another president been in office, other than George W. Kerry has set himself up to act as a pacifist while holding Bush up as the true warmonger. Still, many have applauded the actions he took in result to the September 11th bombings. He does address some of the ongoing and chronic problems which still continue to confront the schools. Bush has a proven track record; some of it good, some of it bad. Part of Kerry's problem is that of being an unknown quotient. Kerry also proposes to make educational systems better. When it comes to Medicare and Medicaid, Bush has delayed this issue over and over again. As far as the economy is concerned, the statistics show that there was an actual rise in the amount of jobs created. Bush was qualified for the role history called upon him to fill. However, with his incentive plans the schools will be forced to pursue the philosophy of 'teaching to the test' even more than they are now. Most have some information or ideas concerning the effectiveness of the President's homeland security and national security programs.
