Gansberg verses Tuchman

Gansberg verses Tuchman There are many forms of writing that can bring across a point in a straightforward yet entertaining manner. Journalistic writing is an example of this style of writing, and Martin Gansberg's "38 Who Saw Murder Didn't Call the Police" is a great illustration of Journalistic writing. Gansberg is successful in relaying to people that in today's society there is no sense of community. Barbara Tuchman's "History as Mirror" is an example of a different style of writing. Her writing is done in an academic style. This style is much more long winded and it is harder to decipher the point the writer is trying to get across. Tuchman is trying to show the contrast between ancient and modern society, and she does accomplish this. Both Tuchmans and Gansbergs pieces of writing are different from each other. The articles use different language, vocabulary, punctuation and facts to get their points across.

There is no sign of any punctuation besides comas and periods. Information and facts are in no shortage in this piece of writing, and Tuchman makes use of all of it to get the point across. Most readers will be able to understand the language Tuchman uses. Quotes are another way in which the Tuchman conveys information. This writing style is geared more towards the intellectual because it takes effort to soak up the information. Punctuation is very diverse in this writing style she uses every thing from comas to semi-colons. Gansberg's is for the general public, who just want the straight fact and do not have time to read into the writing. He does not use as many facts just the bare bones to get the story across. This article is geared towards the general public who want to get the facts in a compact form. Through out the whole essay Gansberg uses very clear and intelligent language. However, it does take a bit of time to absorb and understand the information. Gansberg's writing style is very easy and enjoyable to read. Tuchmans is for the intellectual, who has more time to decipher and absorb. He is masterful in getting his point across with in very few words. Gansberg does however use quotes to back up information and also uses them as hooks to get people interested.
