Civil War
Historians have called the Civil War the "second American Revolution"; they call it this for a few reasons. Political, social and economic reasons were all driving forces to the eventual wars. In both the Civil War and the American Revolution, the reasons for fighting were the same, the search for freedom and self-government, disagreements with the united party/future combatant, and the prevention of prosperity.First, both wars were socially impacted. In both the American Revolution and Civil War the unity between the future combatants was strong until new laws and restrictions were placed on them. These restrictions and laws were the starting line for more issues that would force the sides to war. In the American Revolution, England taxed American without representation, wouldn't let America trade with other countries, and English soldiers began to take over American homes. Americans grew unsettled due to the treatment by the English; they felt there was no reason to be taxed without representation and no reason for being excluded from free trade. This began the social issues that drove ordinary citizens into fighting In the Civil War, the North prevented any western territories from becoming slave states and they didn't b
Jefferson knew that the more land in America that they could acquire, the better off America would be. Both the Civil War and the American Revolution took place in America, and had a great impact on the land and its people. The debt totaled by the Civil War, just for the Union was 1. The Constitution didn't specifically give Jefferson power to make this purchase, however Jefferson knew how important the land was and cited the benefits to the nation were far greater then violating the Constitution. In the Civil War, the South felt that with a Republican President, tariffs were be placed on the Southern products and slaves, slavery would not extend into western territories, and knowing this would not change with Republicans in control of the Presidency and Congress. Jefferson had a brilliant idea of purchasing land rather then waging war to gain new land. The same thing occurred in the Civil War, with Southerners succeeding from the Union. In the American Revolution, prior to the Declaration of Independence, many Americans were scared of being labeled traitors and being hung for treason. Jefferson also sought to turn America in to an agricultural giant and wanted to stay away from industrialization. With the Louisiana Purchase, Jefferson had just doubled the size of America. That is the main reason that the Civil War is called "the Second Revolution", they set out to finish what they started in the American Revolution and make every man free, not just the white ones. After the succession of the Union, the Civil War started. In the Civil War, the South seceded from the North, searching for the same rights of self-government and liberty as its former patriots fought for. In the words of Fredrick Douglass, "Am I not a man.
