Throughout the history of our great country women have played a vital role in the defense of this country. Women have served and continue to serve this country in many different ways. During the World Wars women served in the Women Army Corp (WAC) here in the states and overseas. They also supported the men from rear echelons as the men fought battles of the war. Women have also filled the roles of men in industry and manufacturing during this time and did so quite well. Women made the tanks, ammunition, and other equipment used by the men as they fought the war. However, this was still the time of male domination and as the war ended most women assumed their roles back in society as mothers and housewives. Equal rights weren't an issue during this era and if it became one, it was quelled very quickly.
             Today times have changed and women play an ever increasing role in the development and structure of this great country. Women have achieved positions of great responsibility in both the military and civilian sectors of everyday life. Women have been elected by the people of this country to fill positions that normally were reserved for men. We now have women senators, congressmen, judges, policemen, and firefighters to name a few. Women have ventured out into places where society thought they wouldn't be able to handle the job and they're doing them remarkably. The military isn't immune to this trend that women are pursuing either. Women in the military are paid from the same pay table as their male counterparts. Pay is based upon the grade or rank of that particular person. A female private is paid the same as a male private; a female general is paid the same as a male general, and so on.
