Private vs. Public Schools

A lot of controversy has been raised over public schooling versus private schooling. Much debate has been made about the advantages and disadvantages of public and private schools. There are six areas in which one can compare and contrast the benefits and drawbacks of public and private schools: curriculum, athletics, cost, admissions, teachers, and discipline. First, the curriculum in both public and private schools are similar because the state sets standards of what should be taught in the classroom. Then, athletics can also be comparable in both public and private schools because there is normally a mix of athletes at both types of schools. Then, the cost of attending school differs between public and private schools due to the fact that the government funds public schools and private schools receive no assistance from the government. Then, admissions are also greatly different because public schools cannot deny students, and private schools have the right to refuse anyone they want. Then, the teachers are pretty comparable to each other at both public and private schools because many teachers have taught in both. Finally, the discipline is different because public schools are more lenient then private schools.

Private schools do not have to accept everyone that wants to go to that particular school. The teachers at public schools and the teachers at private schools are very comparable because many teachers have taught in both. Sometimes teachers become loyal to a certain private school because they went there or their children went there. At many private schools there is a harsh dress code or some many have uniforms. "Our analyses suggest that private schools tend to offer a more racially integrated environment then do public schools. Obviously private schools cost a whole lot more the public schools because there is no cost to public schools. The athletics is also comparable considering there is a pretty even mix of athletes at both public and private schools. Not only is there tuition to pay for at private schools, but there is also money spent on getting the students to school, paying for the books that are needed in the classes and the supplies that are required. Public schools have to accept everyone who lives in the surrounding area of the school. Generally public schools have a superior variety of classes to choose from due to the larger student population and greater budget. "A classroom is a classroom whether it's public or private. Normally the pay at private schools is not as good as the pay at public schools mainly because they do not have the same budget that public schools do. The money is not spread out evenly making the poor schools poorer and the rich schools richer. Private schools tend to offer more honors and advanced classes then public schools because private schools often have a greater percentage of students that need to take advanced courses. The average private school tuition in Michigan is about $2,500.
