Discrimination is very common in today's working society. There is discrimination against many individuals because of his or her religion, race, national origin, color and among other reasons. There are many ways individuals can handle when he or she is in a situation dealing with discrimination in his or her working environment. One way of dealing with discrimination is by filing a complaint to the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, also known as the EEOC. According to an EEOC website, "EEOC is an independent federal agency originally created by congress in 1964 to enforce title VII of the civil right act of 1964." "Title VII prohibits not only intentional discrimination, but also practices that have the effect of discriminating against individuals because of their race, color, national origin, religion or sex." An individual by the name of john, which works in a private sector, wants to file a discrimination complaint against his employer. When an employee feels that he or she has been discriminated against, He or she has the right to file a complaint with the United States Employment Opportunity Commission. The first thing that John has to do is to contact an EEOC coun


If John and his employer reach an agreement through mediation then that agreement would be as binding as any other settlement agreement, but if he or she chooses not to mediate or mediation is unsuccessful, then the case is referred back to the EEOC. If John is successful in winning his discrimination case against his employer, he may be liable for back pay, front pay, make-whole-relief and punitive damages.
