What do you think of American Pit Bull Terriers? Most people think of mean and vicious dogs. My parents are among those people. About one year ago a friend of mine asked if I wanted his American Pit Bull Terrier. He was going into the Marine Core and would be unable to care for her. I was so excited. She was so small and cute, and I just wanted to pick her up and cuddle her. When I got home it was a different story. I brought up the idea about adopting a pit bull to my mom and dad, and they said No! Unfortunately, most people feel the same way as my parents. When they think of a pit bull they remember all the bad stories that they have heard. Namely, the dogs have a nature to be fierce and they are only raised to fight. Also that, they are a dangerous dog. American pit bulls, are they really vicious? The truth is that when they are trained to fight viciously, then of course, they will be violent dogs. Generally, an American Pit Bull Terrier is not a violent dog. They are like many other breeds of dogs. They love playing catch and being around people. While fighting, it is important that the owners can go over to the pit and care for their dogs if they are injured. After they are paired, their owners take them to the fighting area, this is where the two owners exchange dogs. I know a few other pit bulls that are, also, sweet, kind and gentle. In the pit, pit bulls are aggressive animals that want to win but only against a matched opponent. Shepards have the reputation of a guide dog or police dog, and APBT have the reputation of a mean dog. They fight until one dog turns or tries to avoid the other. Some people are more aggressive then others, and some people are shy, etc. When you are feeling down she is there to make you smile and when you are home alone at night and scared, she is there to protect you. Once the dogs are ready they meet in the center of the pit, which is usually made out of plywood and is about 16square feet and about 3 inches high. After the fight is done, if the losing dog shows that he wants to continue fighting the winning dog, the crowd applauds him for attempting to push itself toward the winning dog.
