A good man is hard to find

             Flannery O'Connor's short story "A Good Man Is Hard to Find" is told by a third person narrator, with the main focus of the story on the Grandmother's perspective of events that happen throughout the story. The story consists of the family planning a vacation in the same area of where an escape convict is loose. The family consists of the grandmother who is an old lady who has old-fashioned ideas and manners. She is very talkative and manipulative. She seems to be a good person and makes the reader think that she cares about others. Next there is Bailey who is the grandmother's son; he seems to be impatient and grumpy all the time. It doesn't seem like he enjoys spending time with his mother either. Bailey's wife doesn't get into the story very in depth; she seems laid back and like a typical mother figure. Bailey and his wife have two rounbunctous kids, John Wesley and June Star they aren't very respectful of their elders. And aren't taught to be kind to others. They seem very annoying and get on everybody's nerves, including grandmas. The last character in the story is the Misfit convict, who dresses well but talks improper. He is accused of killing his father. He kills without regret and he has no feelings and a cold heart. By trying to avoid something so horrible, only things get worse when their most dreaded fear approaches them without notice. As the family takes off to their wonderful vacation to Florida, grandmother is constantly trying to direct the trip, hoping to avoid the dangerous murderer, and instead directs them into a deserted road.
             This short story starts off with the family planning a vacation in Florida, but the grandmother points out that there is an escaped murderer loose and she doesn't want to go there or anywhere near there.
