In the early 1900s skateboards began as roller skate wheels strapped to a 2 x 4.

Then in the 1950s this primitive design evolved and “Sidewalk Surfing” broke out.

By the fall of 1965, many cities started to ban skateboards. Then in 1971, Larry Stevenson invented the

In the 1950s, Bill Richards was the first to make a deal with roller skate companies to produce separate sets

of wheels . 1)

In the early 1984, skateboarding would make and abrupt return, only in new clothes. Celebrating this new look was the magazine called

Thrasher. Then in the 60’s Skateboarding was very popular with

the

surf crowd and Larry Stevenson’s company, Makaha, Designed the first professional boards. Alas,all this attention from the masses would cause a severe

In 1959 the wheels for the board were made out of clay and it wasn’t until 1970 that Frank Nasworthy would

discover urethane. In 1995, skatebaording once again made a triumphant return.

Skateboarding was getting a massive following in the early 60’s and was even featured on ABC’s wide world

of sports and written about in Life Magazine. A team was

assembled to promote the product. During this period Larry Stevenson would invent the

kicktail or “Skateboard with incline, foot depressable level” and try to resurrect skateboarding but had little
