Movies have come and gone, but no movie has inspired me more than Men of Honor.
             No other movie has inspired me the way this one has. I watch this movie when I feel I cannot go any further in my life. The movie's plot, the actors, and the movie's inspiration makes the film Men of Honor a must see movie.
             The movie's plot is of a young African-American sailor who dares to dream of becoming a U. S. Navy Master Diver. In his quest to become a Master Diver, Carl Brashear faces tremendous obstacles. Brashear's most outstanding obstacle is being a black man in a racist outfit, the navy. When Brashear made his first attempt at entering the navy base, he was not let in because of the color of his skin. He is made to wait outside the gates for two days without food, water, or sleep. When the training officer drives up to the gate on the third day, Brashear looks like death. His legs are shaky, his eyes are worn due to lack of sleep, and his heart is troubled. Brashear has to face racists remarks from his peers. All but one man walks out of the sleeping barracks because they do not want to bunk with a black man. This was the beginning of a struggle that Brashear will win in the end.
             While the movie's plot of a young African-American sailor who dreams of becoming a U.S. Navy Master Diver was ingenious, the actors chosen delivers a powerhouse performance as well. Cuba Gooding Jr. plays Carl Brashear, and Robert Deniro plays the training officer. Gooding has the expertise and the know how to execute a brilliant re-enactment of the emotions Brashear displays throughout his ordeal. I remember one scene in which Gooding is asked, "Why do you want this so much?" Gooding stands tall and looks longingly into the young lady's eyes and says, "Because they told me I couldn't have it."
