Treaty of Versailles
We are doing an interesting essay on our views on The Treaty of Versailles. We will be looking at sources, people' s opinions and what the Internet and books can give us. The question we have to answer is this, 'Was the Treaty of Versailles fair?'The Treaty of Versailles was a peace settlement signed after WW1 had ended in 1918. Most of it was decided by 'The Big Three' Woodrow Wilson, David Lloyd George and Georges Clemenceau. The Treaty of Versailles was signed in the Hall of Mirrors, which is in Versailles, Paris. It could be said that the Treaty of Versailles was a fair settlement, because of Germany destroying a lot of Frances army, 1,400,000 soldiers to be precise. Clemenceau was the French president and wanted Germany to be severely punished, and thought that the treaty was far too lenient on Germany.
All Italians are to be allowed to live in Italy. The Treaty was also quite an unfair settlement because even though Germany had done the most damage in the war, they had never actually started it. France should be fully liberated and allowed to recover Alsace-Lorraine9. Lloyd George knew that if they totally destroyed Germany then that would be very bad for the British industry. The Turkish people should be governed by the Turkish government. The German Army is to be removed from Russia. Woodrow Wilson wasn't all that happy about the Treaty, because he wanted world peace above everything else. Self-determination and guarantees of independence should be allowed for the Balkan states. Italy's borders are to "along clearly recognisable lines of nationality. Non-Turks in the old Turkish Empire should govern themselves.
