A Raisin in the Sun

            The Youngers are all caught up on how the white people live; they forgot what a family is all about, always fighting and arguing leads the family in distress. The Youngers are in the process of waiting for an insurance check for $10,000. This was all because of a decrease in Mr. Younger's insurance policy. Walter, who is Mama's son, would like to invest the money for a liquor store. Where as Ruth, Walters's wife, agrees with Mama, but she would still like to have more room in the house for her son Travis. Beneatha, Mama's daughter, would like to use the money for her tuition costs at a medical school.
             Ruth becomes pregnant, but is afraid to tell everyone because she thinks it will put all the more pressure on the family and their financial needs. When the check finally arrives, everyone knows about Ruth's pregnancy and they talk about abortion. Walter doesn't even act like he cares, because he isn't getting his liquor store. The first thing that Mama does with the check is to put it away in a safe place, later in the week she puts a down payment on a house. Mama believes that a bigger house might cancel out all the fights that are normally going on in the family on a day to day basis. The house is in Clybourne Park, which just so happens to be an all white neighborhood. When the Younger's future neighbors find out that the Youngers will be moving in shortly, they are eager to send Mr. Lindener from the Clybourne Park Improvement Association. His purpose in going over there was to offer the Youngers money in return for staying away. They refuse, even after Walter gets the rest of the money, which happens to be $6,500. With the left over money Walter is putting a down payment on the liquor store.
