Machiavelli and the secret of

Throughout the essay, Machiavelli expresses himself in a manner that could be considered, highly cynical towards man in general. Because of his outlook towards men, Machiavelli informs the Prince that manipulation and the understanding of human nature can be a powerful weapon used to keep the prince in power. Although many of the ways Machiavelli describes men are cynical, there are many cases listed throughout the essay that deliver a harsh shot of reality to the reader about human nature and the acts of men. "And men are less hesitant about harming someone who makes himself loved than one who makes himself feared because love is held together by a chain of obligation which, since men are a sorry lot, is broken on every occasion in which their own self-interest is concerned; but fear is held together by a dread of punishment which will never abandon you." Of course, by stating that men are a sorry lot, Machiavelli is expressing his cynical outlook on men, but when he states that people in general, will first and foremost, look out for their own self preservation, rather than that of another man, Machiavelli is trying to express to the prince the reality of human nature. Everywhere a person m

Whether it is an individual looking out for himself, or a father and husband looking out for his family, the overall goal is to survive. "And men in general judge by their eyes than their hands; for everyone can see but few can feel. ay look throughout history, there will always be the one factor in human nature that has kept us, as a species alive, and that is self preservation. Machiavelli expresses to the prince, that by knowing this, he can allow the people to survive, but with constraints which will be in the prince's favor. Overall, Machiavelli's outlook on human nature is blunt and to the point. Because of this flaw in human nature, it makes us easy to control. "Let a prince therefore act to seize and to maintain the state; his methods will always be judged honorable and will be praised by all; for ordinary people are always deceived by appearances and by the outcome of a thing; and in the world there is nothing but ordinary people; and there is no room for few, while the many have a place to lean on. After reading the essay, even a person now can in some ways relate to most of the views that Machiavelli expressed, simply because these flaws in human nature are part of our everyday society. Everyone sees what you seem to be, few perceive what you are, and those few do not dare to contradict the opinion of the many who have the majesty of the state to defend them. Once again, it is human nature for a person to judge another by simple looks, features, and other things, such as style. By the prince knowing that looks can be deceiving, he gains the ability to fool the masses and control the few that know him for who he really is. Even though a good amount of the expressions listed in the essay were cynical, the main points that focused on the basic human nature of man were unbelievably true to our reality. " This statement in general focuses on the judgment of man and the forming of an opinion, before all of the facts are laid out in front of them. Machiavelli also states in this paragraph that "there is no room for few, while the many have a place to lean on.
