             Using humor in literature makes it more understandable and enjoyable to read, which is described in Woody Allen's play, Death Knocks. From my experience, I enjoy reading literature that makes me laugh because it becomes more interesting. In Death Knocks, "Death" is known as The Grim Reaper. Death seems to be a klutz from his actions throughout the play as he tries to take Nat Ackerman back "home" with him. This makes the plot interesting and funny to read. Creating comical characters is an essential aspect of a good piece of literature. Also, there are different types of humor to make the writing more appealing. Describing every detail of what's going on in that moment helps the reader visualize seeing the funny picture. Timing is also a critical tool in making the story more organized and emphasizes the funnier parts. The use of humor in literature plays an important role in grabbing the reader's attention as displayed in the play, Death Knocks.
             People generally like reading literature that interests them, and humor is a common interest for everyone. When I read a story that is funny, it keeps my mind in tact with the words I'm reading instead of falling asleep. I read much quicker and understand the material a lot more when I'm truly involved in what I'm reading. Humor gives the reader that mental burst of energy to keep on progressing forward in the reading. Humorous readings not only help the reader stay focused on the story, but they can always make the reader feel better if they are in a bad mood or something. Comedy in literature is enjoyed by people of all ages; everyone loves a little comedy once in a while.
             It's paradoxical that The Grim Reaper is such a clumsy and funny character considering who he is. From the beginning, Death has proved to be a numb skull through his goofy actions. "Death: ... I nearly broke my neck. I'm shaking like...
