The Perfect Restriction

Life is full of art, passion, and love but what if there was a restriction on these? In some lives these simple aspects are controlled, which can lead to very damaging results, such as emotional instability or alienation. In the short story "The Yellow Wallpaper" by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, the theme is about the dangers of restricting one from his/her art or passion. Jane says that she "got out at last, in spite of [John] and Jane. it is the writing which made [me] sick. Jane was incapable of performing those perceived "simple" tasks due to her sickness. Last, the destructive results that came from this restriction cannot be reversed or healed. In other words, Jane feels that John will try to get her back to normal by forbidding her to write. As Jane's mental state becomes more unstable, she begins to obsess over the yellow wallpaper in her room, describing it as ".
