Interview

             Timothy is my friend and instructor from the community college where I received my respiratory degree. He is responsible for all of the clinical rotations in the program. He holds a BS in English and an AS in Respiratory Therapy. Recently Tim has taken on the roll of the health sciences admissions counselor for the community college.
             Sherry: Do you see yourself as a leader?
             Timothy: I would definitely say that I am a leader and I know that a strong principal or strong instructional leader needs to have managerial skills as well. I see my self as a leader because my best attributes are that I am into really into quality, I am a visionary leader, I am about service to people and students, and I know that my leadership skills are strong. If I did not have those skills I would be in trouble but those things have to be done.
             Sherry: Do you have a favorite leader?
             Timothy: The last couple of Surgeon Generals have had the common trait of "telling the truth" and being willing to bring focus and awareness to the healthcare issues whether it was politically safe or convenient or not. I admire that kind of principle; it shows their highest allegiance is to the truth.
             Sherry: How would you define leadership?
             Timothy: A strong leader needs to have a future-oriented vision (and the ability to effectively convey that vision"). But also some practical willingness to "role up their
             Sleeves to help accomplish what needs to be done in the here and now. Another essential quality of leadership is advocacy, the ability to communicate and to represent people and issues.
             Sherry: Do you like being a leader? Why?
             Timothy: I think I listen well and understand the importance of listening. I am good at assimilating information and finding common themes, putting both issues and interest together in a synergistic way. I think I communicate fairly well in terms of making persuasive arguments, o
