             Stress is a common experience that is a part of every day living. Stress comes in all forms and can affect anyone no matter age, and/or life style. In today's high tech world, there are many stressors everywhere you look. Many people become stressed but each persons stress level is different and they all handle stress in different ways. According to The Wholistic Stress Control Institute stress is the non-specific response of the body to any demand placed on it. Stress can create feelings of conflict and/or anxiety within an individual. Stress can stem from demands one places on oneself or from outside stimuli or situations. The type of stress that people experience is not necessarily harmful but if their stress level is too high, medical and social problems can result.
             According to the American Institute of Stress (2004), it has been estimated that 75 - 90 percent of all visits to primary care physicians are for stress related problems. Many reasons or events can cause stress. Stress is caused by how people perceive and react to external events. Stress that people have in their lives will always be attributed to something. Day to day hassles or life events can cause stress. National Women's Health Information Center (2004) article "Stress" states "stress can arise for a variety of reasons. Stress can be brought about by a traumatic accident, death, or emergency situation. Stress can also be a side effect of a serious illness or disease. There is also stress associated with daily life, the workplace, and family responsibilities. Stress can also be brought on by other things or events such as, losing or being fired from a job, divorce, financial problems, and family problems (Powell, 1997). People experience stress as they re-adjust their lives. Adjusting to different situations, stress will help or hinder you depending on how you react to it.
