In the story “The Transformation”, Gregor (main character) finds himself transformed into a giant insect. He must rely on his family helping him because it is essential to his survival. Kafka sows lots of tension at the end of Gregor’s transformation when Gregor reveals his new look to his family as the mother “suddenly leapt

Another example that Kafka shows us on this subject can be seen with Gregor’s father.
Kafka makes us feel lots of sympathy for Gregor’s problem through the actions of Grete, Gregor’s sister.

Through Kafka’s text we see Gregor’s father as a non-caring incomprehensive failure of a man who hurts Gregor instead of helping him with his transformation. At first we see an example of Grete’s care for Gregor when she leaves him “a bowl filled with creamy milk, in which little slices of white bread were floating”, pg 92. Death was the final outcome in this case. to her feet…cried out: ‘Help, for God’s sake help!’”, pg 89. Gregor’s father does not show any care and treats his son like he was the monster he transformed into. ) on Gregor, which in the end results in Gregor’s death. But as the story moves on, Kafka shows an example on the importance of caring. It seems as though Grete feels the most for Gregor out of her the entire family. Gregor began to die after his father threw “one apple after another…” that “…plunged… into Gregor’s back”. If Gregor had gotten a little more help from his sister (and mother) and wasn’t abused as much by his father, there could have been a better outcome. It seems as though his father is taking out all of his aggression from his failures (business, parenting, etc. An example of this can be seen when Gregor’s father “…drove him back, making hissing noises like a savage”, pg 90.
