             People ages sixty-five and older paid more than three-quarters of their dental expenses out of pocket (Elderly). This unreasonable amount barely compares with the rest of Americans under the age of sixty-five; while they paid approximately one-half of all dental expenses. Clearly, elderly people pay too much money out of pocket for their health care.
             Office calls are the first steps towards health care bills. The price to visit doctor's office ranges anywhere from thirty-five dollars to one hundred fifty dollars, all of which comes from your wallet. The price of an office call pays for you to make an appointment with the doctor. The check that you write as soon as you walk into the office doesn't pay for your treatment, but just for coming in to see the doctor. While most elderly people are trying to live off of social security and their retirement pension, they are only making around twelve hundred dollars per month. Some people are sent a disability check which is even lower than twelve hundred dollars! It's unbelievable that they are expected to pay up to one hundred fifty dollars just to step into a doctor's office. Thus, office calls can be a costly aspect of health care. Also, office calls can be a costly part of health care bills.
             Prescriptions are inevitably expensive. "Elderly consumers overall are financially disadvantaged in out-of-pocket spending for prescription drugs ... compared with working-age adults," says K. Tom Xu, Ph.D., assistant professor of health economics at Texas Tech Health Sciences Center in Lubbock (Elderly). "In particular, the low-income elderly are worse off than non-elderly adults in the same income group and than their elderly peers in other income groups" (Elderly).
