Health Care Costs for Seniors
Health Care Costs for Senior CitizensPeople ages sixty-five and older paid more than three-quarters of their dental expenses out of pocket (Elderly). This unreasonable amount barely compares with the rest of Americans under the age of sixty-five; while they paid approximately one-half of all dental expenses. Clearly, elderly people pay too much money out of pocket for their health care. Office calls are the first steps towards health care bills. The price to visit doctor's office ranges anywhere from thirty-five dollars to one hundred fifty dollars, all of which comes from your wallet. The price of an office call pays for you to make an appointment with the doctor. The check that you write as soon as you walk into the office doesn't pay for your treatment, but just for coming in to see the doctor. While most elderly people are trying to live off of social security and their retirement pension, they are only making around twelve hundred dollars per month. Some people are sent a disability check which is even lower than twelve hundred dollars! It's unbelievable that they are expected to pay up to one hundred fifty dollars just to step into a doctor's office. Thus, office calls can be a costly aspect of health care. A
All the examples have shown that elderly health care is very expensive. Awareness is important for today's generation. For a decent wheelchair you are going to be paying about two thousand dollars (Power). This is a decision that elderly people should not have to make. How are they expected to afford the high costs of the surgery? In most cases, it's unavoidable to have the surgery. Hence, in-home nursing is the family's decision, but can be an extremely expensive one to make. In-home nursing is a very costly because they are at your service twenty-four hours a day. Sometimes patients need more supervision than a bi-monthly doctor's visit. These ramps can cost up to one thousand dollars, and up to three thousand dollars for the top-of-the-line model. Allow me to explain; in-home nursing is when there is always an RN, LPN, CNA, or HHA present in the patients home. In other words, surgery is becoming an inevitable solution to health problems that many elderly people cannot afford. I propose that people over the age of sixty-five receive adequate insurance to cover all office calls, prescription costs, and surgery.
