             The Crucible, a twentieth century play, written by Arthur Miller, inspired by the communist accusations of Senator McCarthy, recounts a classical tale of allegation of innocent Puritans charged with the crime of witchcraft. In Salem Village, Massachusetts the infected youth of the village in an attempt to relieve ennui hold ritualistic ceremonies in the depth of the forest led by a Barbados slave, named Tituba, with the responsibility of the female children. The taboo activity is a discovered by the self-absorbed village Reverend Samuel Parris, and it leads to accusations lacerating the immaculate souls of the Puritan Culture. Litigations were brought up to circumscribe the impending future on the demise of the charged scars the end of the Seventeenth century of America. During the course of the play Arthur Miller portrays Elizabeth Proctor as a main character by deciding weather to trust John, when asked to confess about the affair, and when asked to convince John to confess.
             Elizabeth Proctor is an honest and God loving woman, and throughout the play she is constantly plagued with questions of trust. John Proctor, her unfaithful husband, had a clandestine affair with his house girl Abigail Williams. After discovering the devilish deeds Elizabeth promptly fired Abigail and sent her to reside with her egotistical uncle the town Reverend. Since then on Elizabeth could not trust her husband whom she had bore three children from; John was not even permitted to be alone with Abigail when he was in town. From then on Elizabeth was said to keep a "cold house" and be very embittered towards John. Shortly after Elizabeth was indicted John was implicated in the witch trials, and she was obligated into assessing weather or not she should be able to trust John.
