The company COACH originated more than half a century ago in 1941, and was initially a family-run workshop in a loft in Manhattan, NY. Six artisans handcrafted a collection of leather goods using skills handed down from generation to generation. The founder of Coach was inspired by a baseball glove and soon after, he made a more refined, softer and stronger glove. After his work with the glove, he then began creating Coach's first handbag. Since then the company has been nothing but thriving and consumers seek out the quality and unique nature of Coach Craftsmanship. Coach started the handbag business with twelve simple bags, and over the years has added many new shapes, styles, and materials each with a classic design. "Every Coach product embodies the perfect balance between aesthetics and functionality. Sizes, shapes, pockets and straps are carefully considered to provide maximum efficiency, comfort and convenience. " In addition to the variety of handbags and accessories the company also features a range of pieces, which include briefcases, organizers, planners, notepads, computer cases, luggage, and cell phone cases all of which embrace sophistication and function. Although Coach has it's competitors it still manages to be one of the leading manufacturer's and designers of leather handbags and accessories. Jesse Schwayder, the founder, had one goal in mind, which was to produce and sell an uncommonly well-made trunk that would stand up to the most rigorous travel, originally including the Gold Rush. He began his career with Coach in 1979 as Vice President of New Business Development and was influential in the increasing number of retail stores and expanding into international markets. " In addition, the company does not just use the name Samsonite, but it als sells under different brands such as Samsonitec, American Touristerc, Hedgrenc, Lacostec, and Trunk & Coc. com in 1999 and is planning to open 20 new stores a year. It is anticipated that the company will double current Japanese market share over the next few years. " This value, as stated in the Coach mission statement is, "Our success is rooted in uncompromising devotion to honesty and fairness where our people, our business and our community are concerned. Coach now has three successful flagship stores in Tokyo. The company started out with only 10 employees and one product: trunks and inexpensive hand luggage. " The last two values are "Innovation drives winning performance" and "Our success depends on collaboration", both which are self explanatory. All three companies, Coach, Dooney and Bourke, and Samsonite, sell very similar type products, but they attract a different consumer and price their items differently. Without this trait many companies would be ding very poorly or no longer operating.
