Jainism and Sikhism

Jainism teaches believers the immortality and transmigration of the soul and denies the existence of a perfect or supreme being. Jain people, are very simplistic, spiritual people who center themselves with nature, life and peace. Sikhism is a unique combination of Hindu and Islam and unlike Jainism is not nonviolent .

Jainism believes there are two kinds of energies, energy of mechanism and the energy of intelligence which are also referred to a matter (Jada) and life (Chetana). Going along with the discussion of energy, Jainism believes that the energies of gravitation, magnetism and electricity are believed to be three forces, which sustain the universe, all of which are under Jada. In the Sikh belief system the goal of human life is to break the cycle of birth and death to merge with God. Where as in Jainism the person seeking salvation is taught to throw everything away to release themselves of worldly attachments. The fears that plague us in are everyday life are the fears of death, injury, torture, hurt, oppression. If one can overcome these, they will achieve salvation. der and prayer, of love and sympathy, of dedication and determination these “subtle” forces are part of the energies of intelligence. Objects in life preventing us from merging with God are called vices, The five cardinal vices are; Kam (lust), Krodh (anger), Lobh (greed), Moh (worldly attachment) and Ahankar (pride). The Fundamentals of Jain beliefs are that universe is self-created, self ruled, self regulated and self-administered, according to the mighty and eternal cosmic law. It is considered honorable to earn ones daily bread through honest work and not by begging or dishonest means. In nature the subtle force of Yoga; activities of the mind, speech and body are more powerful than the forces of matter. Where many other comparable religions hold women as substandard and unequal.

Unlike Jainism, Sikhism encourages family life (Grasth), and celibacy or renunciation of the world is not necessary to achieve salvation.

Unique to Sikhism is that the Guru's stressed the full equality of women, rejecting female infanticide, sati (wife burning), permitting widow remarriage and rejects purdah (women wearing veils). If the world population would follow the Jainism beliefs the whole world will enjoy lasting peace and prosperity instead of present day, world of hatred and violence.  

A Jain persons life goal is to give themselves freedom from fear.
