Faith Reason and Imagination
UNIV 3581: Faith Reason & Imagination When I first enrolled in this course I was unsure of what to expect. I was unsure of what Faith Reason and Imagination were; when it came to the educational realm of the word. I say that, because Faith and Reason seem to have the illusion of spiritual meanings and concepts, thus I could not accept the idea that a course of this nature would be taught at the University. Yet as the course has begun to develop, I see that these words and phrases have more than spiritual and religious stigmatization, they are personal and character defining. For me Faith Reason and Imagination express a person's ideals, beliefs and theories on life. But it is more than that; according to Webster's Dictionary, faith reason and imagination are defined as;...faith being a belief and trust in and loyalty to God; belief in the traditional doctrines of a religion; firm belief in something for which there is no proof; complete trust; something that is believed especially with strong conviction. ...reason as a statement offered in explanation or justification; a rational ground or motive; a sufficient ground or explanation or of logical defense; something that sup
You must take the faith, and visualize what it is, and then rationalize it, into what it may become. My reasoning ability out weighs my faith, only because I believe that reason contradicts faith and what you believe to be right and correct. If you can reason logically, you can then have the ability to prove and persuade your faith to others; because only though reason can you find the truth and only through truth can you have true faith. The images that we (the class) have come to express are not far from what Webster and the rest of the world has expressed or defined. A man is what he thinks he is if has the Faith to see himself as he wants, if he has Reason behind his convictions and if he has the Imagination that makes it all connect. Thus without the ability to reason, your faith will only get you so far. When both Faith and Reason are brought into a situation it can cause you to obtain a mental image of something that is neither perceived as real nor present to the senses and process it; which is your Imagination. It allows me not place blame on any one else for my actions but myself. Reason is both theoretical and practical, because rational beings need to know not only what to believe, but also what to do. James Allen wrote, "Man is made or unmade by himself. The imagination is the one thing in your life that is not tainted by outside forces and depression. I think that in order to have a complete being you must come together in one form. The way I live my life is not completely through faith, but my faith is a factor that I do abide by.
