The United States Civil War was the single most greatest war that was fought by our country. Their were 3 million that fought, and 600,000 the died from both the North and the South. The Civil War was also the only war that was ever fought on American soil, by Americans. The Civil War had many great and historical battles, and the era also had several great leaders. General Lee was a major factor in why the Civil War lasted as long as it did, because of General Lee's greatness, he held off the far superior Union Troops for nearly three years. I have therefore resigned my commission in the Army, and save in defense of my native state, with the sincere hope that my poor services never be needed, I hope I may never be called on to draw my sword against my heritage.
