Religion and Homosexuality

On October 8, 2004, writer and homosexual, Brian O’Leary Bennett wrote an article titled ‘Forging a pro-gay, pro-life alliance,’ in which he argues the point that, (as he believes,) those who are pro-life, should also be pro-gay. His main point is that he believes that someone is born gay, like someone is born with blonde hair or with brown skin. I disagree with many of his points in this article.

One point I disagree with is his statement that people are born gay. “…his broken promise to unborn gay and lesbian children. Paragraph 4” This reference is mentioned many other places in the article. A child is not born gay, homosexuality is a choice. Tony Horton, a former gay, has a website titled ‘Christians No Longer Gay Living for God.’ On his website is a quote saying “…Change is possible. No one is born gay. It is a perverted choice one makes. Why would God make anyone homosexual then bar them admittance into the kingdom of heaven? (www.thebible.net/cnlglfg/)” These kinds of beliefs go back to bible times; In 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 it says “Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders

. . .

’ Genesis 2:22-23” This was considered the first marriage as Adam realized that he and Eve belonged together. ” At this point, we have passed the one on one and even taking the sin before the church, these pro-life Christians have brought this in front of the nation, to confront these sins and open the homosexual’s eyes that what they are doing is a sin, but that they can still be forgiven after they accept that they are sinning and change their ways. If that is what they were, then after believing in Christ they were able to change and not make those choices anymore. But you were washed…” Here Paul also states that those who do these things will not inherit the kingdom of God. They must be put to death, their blood on their own heads.

Another point that he has that I do not agree with is his statement that 4 pro-lifers are on an “unchristian crusade against lesbians and gays.

Also, in the book of Genesis is the story of Adam and Eve. Verse 11 states “…and that is what some of you were. ” This points out that they “abandoned natural relations” meaning that they chose to do this; they chose to have relations with other men. It also states that they “received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion,” meaning that God punished them for their choices. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over. But if he will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses. The man said, ‘This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘women,’ for she was taken out of man. ” This explains how as Christians we have a responsibility to watch out for other people and fellow Christians and help them realize that they are sinning and help them through it, so that we fulfill the commandment in Matthew 28:19-20; “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you…” and bring all nations to Christ. nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanders nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
