Wallowa Lake

Come, sit back, relax and take little journey into heaven. Imagine it’s a beautiful hot August afternoon with not a cloud in the sky. You are secluded in the heart of a crystal clear lake enveloped within the most beautiful surroundings in the world. The rays of the sun not only warm your heart but your soul as well. As you take a deep breath you are overcome with the pristine smell of nature. The sights beholding; in every direction the mountain peaks soar from the depths of the blue water that is splashing all around you. The mountains’ majesty so full of detail it looks like a painting. It’s too good to be true. This is what I call heaven, known to others as Wallowa Lake.

I am sitting on a dock in the middle of an ice blue lake. This is one place on earth where I am totally relaxed and could never get bored sitting for hours. With every look I am in awe of the amazing sites. To my left, rambling river water rushes into the lake. The glacial river water looks so cold it gives me goose bumps to just think about it. Old rickety fishing boats gather together at the throat of the river ready to catch the first fish being set free into the lake. Close to the shoreline random trees pop out of the water a

. . .

Sparsely spaced cabins dot the mountainside as though they are suspended in mid-air. I climb the tree, grab the rope, swing out as far as I can and let go plunging into the water. In the distance I can see the big brown wall tent I call home for the week. My sister and I flounder in the water in gales of laughter; laughter as I am told that can be heard for miles.

This is how I wish I could spend everyday of my life. With each speeding splash of color the lake water takes on a new personality, from smooth as glass to rough as sandpaper. From the side of the dock I reluctantly jump from the hot August air into the frigid water, it takes my breath away, but is very refreshing at the same time. It’s the best week of my life, year after year after year…. Above the lake, the boats, the cabins, towards the mountaintop there is a clearing in the trees.

It is so quiet as I sit upon the dock that all I can hear is an occasional fish jump, for what I can only imagine is a longing for a glimpse of these beautiful surroundings. ” The backdrop behind the stubborn trees is a picturesque mountain scene, along with a very quiet and calm, green and grassy campground scattered with tents of every size and shape. ”

SPLASH, SCREAM and a cry of laughter, “Oh my gosh, what is it?” Behind me I see a group of kids from town jumping into the lake from a rope swing that they have tied to a tree. This endeavor is repeated over and over again, each time being better and more hilarious than the last. Wallowa Lake truly is my heaven on earth.
