puritan dilemma

There are many different reasons why migrations from the early days up to present time took place as they did. Why would people leave their place of birth or their place of comfort ? That's the big question! Just like John Winthrop and his puritan believers they left England to form the America we know now, which In their eyes was New England. To begin this essay lets start of with the obvious, one reason the puritans migrated was because of the way they felt about how they viewed religion and how the church of England functioned . From the beginning all puritans wanted to do was purify the church. They wanted ministers to teach , simplify rituals so every one could understand the masses whether you were in high class or in the low class. They also believed the church of England thought they were highest authority , in which the puritans disagreed because they believed the bible was the righteous authority. They wanted not to only purify the church but to teach every men the righteous way, the way of the teaching of the bible. Within these large group of puritans like in any other group you had your extremist puritans and then the more liberal puritans you might say. The liberals they really believed that the church of Eng

Puritans were very passionate folks who lived their lives to their fullest, not in too much of a wild way but good enough to be considered godly. When John and his fellow puritans got to the New England they immediately went to working on the new government that is more ideal for there people. That was the beginning of the many corruptions the puritans had to face before finally breaking free of England. In 1630, the puritans left England to New England in which John Winthrop famous phrase , he called his new world a City Upon A Hill . Would you want to be told ignored when your facing personal issues that the government can help you with , but instead they just choose to ignore you. Lot of fur trading, fishing, shipbuilding, and farming wheat and corn were all in the day's work. They felt sex was a blessing from god to be enjoyed, but the only catch is you had to be married. In those days there was no such thing as freedom of religion. They wanted to live in a world were they had a say in what went on , also they wanted to live in a better place , a more secure place where they wont be persecuted of their belief. There was the only the church of England that you could go and worship to . However the extremist were called the Separatists. The second reason why the puritans migrated is to run their own kind of government that they saw fit for themselves none like the church of England who had the most power in the country. The only thing they were against is gambling and card playing for some reason they thought it was wrong and sinful, not because people have fun doing this leisurely activities but because they wasted a lot of time. Two quotes from the early day were " A penny saved is a penny earned" and Early to bed , early to rise". Cheating and ignoring the poor and middle class by the church was something that was exposed when the bible was printed and many copied were disbursed to all the commoners, not just the high clergy and priests of the church that took large amounts of money from the lower class telling them because of their acts they will live a better life and that god wanted the lower classes to pay, and of course the money that they church received from the un-educated English men and women were spent on their own leisurely behalf.
