The topic of religion has always been controversial. Is there a right one to follow? Whether or not there is a “right” one, all religions have the common characteristic of encouraging people to believe in and to live by their particular standards and beliefs. Two widely spread religions in our world are Christianity and Hinduism. These two religions share a variety of things. However, their differences set them and their followers drastically apart.

The history of Hinduism began 2500 years before the Common Era (B.C.E.) in India. It was located along the base of the Indus River, which was called “Hindu” by the Persians who migrated there. The land was called Hindustan and the people, Hindus. As a result, the religion that followed was called Hinduism. The history of Christian faith begins with the birth of Jesus Christ. Jesus spread the word of God and promised eternal life to those who kept their faith in God. Jesus Christ was then prosecuted by the Romans, who then crucified him. After the death of Jesus his disciples continued to preach about the eternal soul. Soon his followers claimed he was the Son of God. Jesus and Krishna, both sent from heaven to earth in the form of a man, were called both a “God” and the “Son of God”. While Hindus believe that their bodies will be reincarnated, Christians believe that their soul will forever be in heaven with God.

Hinduism and Christianity are both religions that have been around for thousands of years. There were many commonalities between the lives of these two beings. In contrast, Christians believe that Jesus is the only way, the truth, and the life. Both believe in resurrection- Christians believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ and Hindus believe in the resurrection of Krishna. Both religions believe in a future reward in heaven or punishment in hell. They both require faith in the Savior for salvation. Hinduism believes in their Savior, Krishna. At birth, they were both visited by wise men and shepherds. They both had the power of healing. In addition, the act of being born again is included in both Christianity and Hinduism. One of the most differing ideas between these two religions is the subject of death. Jesus Christ and Krishna descended into Hell, and were resurrected.
