Drug abuse among teenagers

Causes And Effects of Drug Abuse Among TeenagersThink about how you feel when something good happens, maybe your team wins a game, you're praised for something you've done well, or you drink a cold lemonade on a hot day, that's your limbic system at work. Because natural pleasures in our lives are necessary for survival, the limbic system creates an appetite that drives you to seek those things. The first time someone uses a drug of abuse, he or she experiences unnaturally intense feelings of pleasure. We live in a drug-taking society. While there is a lot of concern going about through government exposure many of us do not know the causes and effects of drug abuse. The most harm and the greatest risk to young people/teenagers comes from using legal drugs such as alcohol, cigarettes and medicines. However, young people may want to experiment with new things and test limits, such as taking on illegal drugs. Among some of the common reasons why teenagers start to take on drugs is because they want to fit in. When it comes to saying no to drugs, the hardest people to say no to are your friends. Everyone faces peer pressure at one time or another. No one wants to be the only one not participating or left out. So they make t

Some drugs like glue or butane can cause immediate death. According to the Parenting SA association most teenagers often rely on friends to tell them what to expect from a drug and are often misled by inaccurate information. Now the abuser needs drugs just to bring dopamine levels up to normal levels. Without a dose of the drug, dopamine levels in the drug abuser's brain are low. Also, they can really hurt people--telling lies, stealing money for drugs, sometimes even getting violent with people they love. The limbic system is flooded with dopamine. Oh, and we've never been able to figure out where the myth that drugs make your sex life better came from. Besides making you feel different and playing around with your nerves and brain synapses, almost all drugs can make it tougher to sleep. Without drugs, an abuser's life seems joyless. Those seeking relaxation or coping with stress, boredom or pain often resort to drugs as well. Some cause major weight gain, some cause unhealthy weight loss. Somehow taking drugs as a form of rebellion makes them outlaws or more individual. Drug addiction therapy is a program of behavior change or modification that slowly retrains the brain. Using drugs over and over for a long period of time can cause lots of medical problems, from lung cancer (pot) to liver problems (alcohol) to big time brain damage (ecstasy, alcohol).
