What Really Happened at the Boston Massacre?
             On March 5 1770, a small group of boys began to harass a British century on duty in Boston while in front of the custom house. The century impatiently told the kids to go home it were after curfew the boys did not listen and the British century so the sentry hit one of the kids with his rifle. The kids went home and told their parents, and the parents rang the church bells and got people from all over the town to help with protection against the British Century. Several British soldiers fire into the crowd of people demanding to know why a century had hit their kid with a weapon.
             Captain Preston's defense is as follows; the mob was kicking, screaming, bloody cussing, you bloody backs, lobster scoundrels. Captain Preston says he was there between the crowd and his fellow soldiers. His soldiers asked if the guns were charged and he said yes. But he said "I never told my soldier's to fire". "What happened is one of my soldier's took a severe blow and then stepped aside and fired, from then on let to the firing of the other soldier's weapons within my cavalry". So Captain Preston's defense is that he never ordered his troops to fire and then ordered his troops to stop firing into the crowd.
             The witnesses say that on person an apprentice "I heard a noise about 8 o clock and went down to the royal exchange lane". He says that there was person's with sticks. Another witness Ebenezer Hinkley "Just after 9 o clock I heard the cry of fire. I saw the party come out of the Guard house. A Capt. Cried out of a guard window fire upon 'em dam em. This witness for the persecution says that he heard Capt. Preston give several commands in the street in front in the Townhouse area, saying load, fire you weapons and which beginning and the pertaining to firing into the crowd.
