             On a Monday morning a person that usually commutes from Riverside to Long Beach, gets in his vehicle and heads west on the 91 freeway. Within minutes the freeway is packed bumper to bumper with cars stopping and going. This is just one of the congested freeways he drives on every morning. Though the traffic jam may be clear in as little as minutes, it could take as long as hours. As the driver continues down the maze of freeways, he thinks to himself, will this congestion ever end? This scenario is normal; everyone who commutes faces slow, dangerous, and inconsistent traffic everyday. Who would want to sit in heavy traffic to and from work everyday? People who commute are not the only ones affected. Citizens who rarely leave their own city are forced to deal with crowded intersections and busy stoplights caused by people who choose to take city streets instead of dealing with traffic. Although traffic causes many problems, there are solutions to prevent this congestion, such as getting more people to carpool, improving freeways, more job opportunities, adding toll lanes, providing more affordable housing, and overall better planning.
             Traffic is a problem in southern California. People who commute are mostly affected because no matter where they are going, they will run into backed up traffic. This congestion is never possible to predict and is always inconsistent. Just about everyone has to be at work or to an appointment at a set time. Arriving on time is incredibly difficult considering that it's impossible to know how long it will take to reach one's destination. So instead of being late, it's a must to allow extra time in case of heavy traffic. Leaving early is a challenge of it's own, let alone getting to work on time.
