Falling views and values
'To Provoost, ignorance is the greatest evil'Anne Provoost explores through her novel 'Falling' how being ignorant can lead to conflict and consequence to violence. The portrayal of the evilness in being ignorant is highlighted through Lucas's family and those not accepting reality. It is essentially through Lucas's lack of knowledge of his grandfather's past and Benoit willfulness of ignoring the truth that presented Provost's view that the two types of ignorant 'willfully ignoring' and 'lack of knowledge' both has the same result of leading the characters to aggression behaviors. After the death of Felix's daughter, Felix suffered a great anguish. From an ignorant belief, Felix believed that the death of his daughter could have been avoided, if she had enough to eat. He needed to blame someone for her death, so he blamed it on the Jewish children who were kept hidden by the nuns. A consequence of this belief, fifteen children was force out of the co
Many innocent people has suffered and harmed as a consequence of Felix and Lucas's ignorant beliefs. Regardless of their past and the person that Caitlin's is he immediately acts against her. "I sincerely believed that foreigners could make much better progress in their own country". Overall, Provoost illustrated that ignorance can lead to hazardous behaviours. The communities in Mountourin are all aware of Felix's activities during the war. By acting in such a way, Benoit only intended to make the pain worse. Through this, Provoost demonstrate to us how ignorant can force people to harm other people significantly. Benoit intention to make it worse for those refuges that are living in poverty and fear is shown by Provoost as an indication that wilfully ignoring the truth will do no good for anyone; it will only leave others to suffer. Lucas has the lack of knowledge of the truth whereas Benoit willfully ignores the truth. They reveal the truth to him and with Lucas's ignorant beliefs he position himself to think that what his Grandfather did to the refuges was right. In order to stop her being hunted by her father's actions she burns all the photos and evidence. I'm looking forward for a way to pay her back".
