Imperial Presidency
The presidency is a very flexible role, during times of crisis congress and the people take a step back, and give the president a longer leash. Often times these presidents that reign during times of crisis are labeled as imperial presidents due to the additional leniency they are granted. But to what extent does a president cross the threshold and become an imperial president? And most importantly with the return of the imperial presidency in the Bush administration has America granted the president too much power?Imperial Presidency can be found throughout America's history. In fact the most notable president's have been imperialistic. These presidents have tested the limits of their presidencies and have utilized their ability as commander in chief to its full extent. America's past is rich with presidents that acted on the boundaries of the guidelines of the constitution. From Abraham Lincoln's imposition of martial law and his suspension of habeas corpus in 1861, to President Bush's bold campaign in Iraq.
