development of Leis&Rec indust
Investigating Leisure and RecreationTask 1- The development of the leisure and recreation industry since the 1960s.Since the 1960s the leisure and recreation industry has developed rapidly due to the many key factors that I'm going to talk about.Between 1945 and 1960, the period after the war, there was a static period of development in the leisure and recreation industry. There are various reasons for this static period. One of the main reasons was the war, because in the time after it people were not concentrating on taking part in leisure activities or having leisure time, their main focus was to rebuild their lives. Rebuilding their lives consisted of the rebuilding of bombed towns, cities etc. It also consisted of looking for jobs e.g. factory work, or setting up their own businesses, so that they could have some sort of source of income. Because these were the people's main focuses they did not have very much free leisure time. Employers had to make employees work long hours so that products could be finished so that they could go out on sale. Now days we have technology in our places of work that entitles work to be done much quicker and more efficiently e.g. mass production. Because of this technology l
But if an activity is not featured a lot in the media then the public's awareness of the activity is not very high, so not so many people will take part in it. This has caused the leisure and recreation industry to actually provide activities which women can join in with or are purely just for women, whereas in the 60s, 70s because women workers hadn't really caught on yet the industry didn't really cater for them. Once again this means "more leisure time" and also "more disposable income" as well. The number of unemployed people has risen since 1971 but has also decreased within the last decade but is still more than the number in the 1970s. This didn't exactly bring the industry very much money. With the Olympics just finished and the facilities being there, there would be an increased interest in athletics and more people joining athletic clubs, so in this way the future Olympics could influence the growth of the industry. Since the 1960s the economics of the country has changed. Also the absence of technology meant that people had to carry out time-consuming chores. So the more leisure time people have, the better it is for the industry because they benefit from the money. this helped the leisure and recreation industry to expand and develop even more on a new level. A person or shareholders usually own them; members who pay to use the facilities, other companies, and bank loans fund them.
