The Outsiders

This is a novel by Susan Eloise Hinton. It was written in the 1960's and was a "coming-of-age" style novel.
There was always tension between the two groups featured in the novel: the "Soc's", and the "Greaser's". Ponyboy and his friend Johnny hang out with two girls that have the meanest and most ignorant boyfriends of all; the Soc's. What Ponyboy and Johnny don't know is that the girls, Cherry and Marcia, are well protected from any no-gooder who might try to steal them away. This ultimately gets them in trouble. Whenever Ponyboy would come home late or do anything out of the ordinary, Darry would take into action the "father-figure". This is what separated Ponyboy and his smarts from all of the other greasers.
I think a theme for this novel could be "bridging the gap between rich and poor". Throughout this novel the Socs and Greasers have shared many moments together. The time when Ponyboy and Cherry talked at the movie or the time Ponyb
